Free Streaming Websites Hurting Artists

With current technology, it is very easy for people to stream music without spending any money and that is hurting artists. Recently Taylor Swift took her music off of Spotify, which is a popular music streaming website, because artists get paid less than a penny per song on there and she said that it wasn't fair and people should pay for their music.

Personally, I can see why Swift did this, but I can also understand why some people might get upset. I think that her doing this makes a statement about how artists put a lot of hard work into what they do and they should get rewarded.

I can also see why people would get upset because mosts artists get a majority of their money from tours and meet and greets. People may not be able to afford to get their music any other way due to limited money as well which is why I think music streaming sites are great. They are also great because it's an amazing way to discover new music and artists.

This can connect to human geography because it is a great example of how popular culture can affect people's thought processes and how people use many different resources to find new things to enjoy.

Do you think it was a good idea for Swift to remove her music from Spotify, or do you think it was unfair?

  1. I agree. I think it unfair that people can download music for free. In my opinion, it was unfair because her job is to make music. If she does not get paid for her music, it means that she is working for free and loosing money. Who would work and not get paid? She doesn’t get paid for her work once people are allowed to get it without paying. I would be very irritated if I had to work all day and not get paid for the work that I have done. If her music was removed from the app, more people will buy her album. Her true fans and supporters will buy the album regardless because they like her and her music. By her taking her music off Spotfy, she is letting people know that she needs to be paid for her music. Making music is not free. She needs to get paid for her work.

  2. I agree and disagree with what she did. I agree because I believe that all artists should get their money for their music. She is an outstanding artist and I strongly believe she should get the proper amount of money for her music. I also don't think its fair that there are people around the world that are getting the music for half he cost or even for free. The whole point of the Spotify app is to get music fro free. The people that use Spotify aren't giving the artist credit for their music. The app is free so the artist gets like no income from it. I also disagree with this because this could have been the only way some people could get their music. I mean albums now a days are expensive and I believe no one wants to pay almost $20 for a couple of songs. This is what causes people to use apps like Spotify.
